What do you need to start making money as an Affiliate Marketer?
A few days ago I was on a social media site a non-marketing friend saw one of my posts and was a little curious and she asked me if it was hard Getting Started In Affiliate Marketing. I told her it depends on whether or not she was going to make her own product to promote or if she was going to promote someone else’s product.
To be in control of what you post and have some flexibility to be able to grow at the very least getting started in affiliate marketing would require several things…
I told her she would need:
- Domain Hosting
- Domain Name
- AutoResponder – Email marketing collect email
- Product to Market – it could be an affiliate Network or promote someone else’s product with little over head.
The whole reality of it is some may say that you can start without any money and rely on organic search engine traffic, using free traffic methods such as Craigslist and forum signatures, Classifieds, and blogging etc.,
Those aren’t really viable ways of getting anywhere meaningful or the quality off traffic you’ll need to make progress. My opinion is, the best way to get started in affiliate marketing is to jump in, stop talking about it and just be about it…
I also advise you to spend the money and learn hands-on as well from people who have the experience and been through the trial and errors.
That means you need to position yourself for success and depending on your budget it can be done fast or slow, slow being free marketing. So what do you need to do before getting started in affiliate marketing is;
Set a realistic GOAL!
When you want to reach this GOAL!
And, what you will do to reach your GOAL!
After that you need to figure out who you’re going to marketing to & what you’re going to be marketing to them…
Now that you have your Niche – “your target market”
Ask yourself what do they need? and how can you provide value & make money based on that need.
So, you have your niche + product + ?
Now you will need web hosting, I’ve always used Hostgator get a baby hosting package and no extras. Then get your keyword rich niche specific rich domain name from places like Namecheap, Bluehost, or my favorite & the most popular Godaddy.
Just Google .99 cent godaddy domain name and your all set or you can get it somewhere else.
In any case, once you have your domain name before you get started you need to edit your DNS setting on Godaddy so that Hostgator will be able to host you domain name.
- Don’t start editing the DNS setting unless you know what you’re doing, call support…
After all that install WordPress on your new domain install a few plugins to help make your life a little easier. Then just start posting & promoting by driving traffic to your new site an affiliate product. It’s great you get organic traffic from the search engines but at some point you’re go to say to heck with this and that’s when you’ll see the difference between free & targeted paid traffic.
Alternatively you could also find an affiliate product and or do CPA marketing and run pay-per-click and or social media traffic to it and even then you would still need an autoresponder and a way to capture leads…
The reality is Getting Started in Affiliate Marketing can be as simple as promoting someone elses product using paid traffic and social media but, eventually you will spend the money for the hosting and a domain name. Although you may start out using free marketing methods you will eventually begin to understand that you cannot make money or build a business without even having a little budget regardless of how small it may be.
